Epoxy based polymeric coatings and repair materials provide cost effective, prompt solutions for rebuilding, repairing and protecting industrial equipment from corrosion, erosion and chemical attack. A critical aspect of any coating or repair material is the ability to adhere to the substrate. Bonding of a polymeric material to the substrate can be separated into three general modes-dispersative bonding, chemical bonding and mechanical bonding. Dispersative bonding is the result of weak intermolecular dispersion forces between the polymer molecules and the underlying substrate atoms. It is also the weakest of the three modes and chiefly used by most retail glues.

When maintenance was required inside the Hammond Water Filtration Plant in Hammond, Ind., a moisture-cured polyurethane system proved the only way to coat more than 35,000- sq ft of piping and valves.

Kempten, October 7, 2008 - ESK Ceramics GmbH & Co. KG has successfully passed the recertification audit of its quality and environmental management systems to ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004.
All corporate divisions, from production, through development, to sales, have been distinguished with the ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004 certificates. They were first awarded to ESK in 1994 and are now valid for a further three years. The surface engineering division is additionally certified to the automotive quality standard ISO/TS 16949 for its friction coatings for this industry.

Responsible for supplying an average of 60 million gallons of drinking water each day, the Monroe County Water Authority (MCWA) in Rochester, N.Y., depends on more than 100 centrifugal pumps with a total installed capacity of more than 35,000-hp. These pumps range in size from 5-hp to 1750-hp and consume an average 5-MW of power daily. In an era of conserving energy and increasing sustainability, the MCWA is attempting to reduce energy consumption, greenhouse gases and operations and maintenance costs.
