ST. LOUIS-Emerson Motor Technologies announced the American Petroleum Institute (API) has certified its Mena, Ark., facility as API 547 Q1 compliant for the production of its new U.S. MOTORS® TITAN® III Motor.

API 547 MonogramEmerson is one of the first motor manufacturers worldwide that can display this API 547 monogram on its products. The company committed heavily in product development and plant upgrades and underwent a two-stage, on- and off-site auditing process that will be repeated every year to ensure consistent compliance with API's requirements.

At the Mena facility, Emerson has begun manufacturing the new U.S. MOTORS TITAN III Motor, a high-efficiency API-certified product that will be delivered through a quicker, more streamlined process.

"This distinguished certification is quite an accomplishment and truly sets apart the level of manufacturing at our Mena, Ark., plant," said Rich Heppe, president of Emerson Motor Technologies, Fluid Systems Division. "Emerson is proud to show its commitment to our oil and gas customers by offering a product that bears the API 547 Monogram."

Manufacturing Facility in MenaThe strict requirements of the API 547 standard demanded the company pay special attention to its facility's production and testing capabilities. Because Emerson anticipates modification orders for 90 percent of the motors manufactured at the 324,000 square-foot facility, the company designed the upgrades to accommodate special customer requirements.

As part of the API program, Emerson also is introducing new strategies that enable its workforce to manufacture reliable products efficiently and in adherence to stringent quality standards.

"The needs of our customers are great, and it's crucial they have faster and more reliable access to our products," said Heppe. "We are offering an innovative, lean vision for revolutionizing the manufacturing process through speed and flexibility. We have a terrific production and management team at our Mena facility, and they have worked hard to achieve this top global standard for our products."

The American Petroleum Institute created the 547 standard in 2005 in response to the industry's need for a severe-duty motor that could be built to standard specification while still offering the uncompromising dependability of the API 541 standard.

In addition to the API 547 certification, the Mena plant is ISO®† 9001-2000 certified and can produce 25 to 6000 horsepower, 220-6900 volt motors, including the 841 Plus® TITAN®  Vertical Holloshaft® Motor and Solid Shaft products.
