ATLANTA (Nov. 20, 2014) – Siemens is proud to announce that Anne Cooney, president of the Process Industries and Drives (PD) division in the U.S., was named to the list of 100 Diverse Corporate Leaders in STEM, by STEMconnector.

Cooney was honored in the STEMconnector publication that featured top executives who have demonstrated a commitment to STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and diversity initiatives and who are making a difference with these efforts. In the publication, Cooney expresses her views on the importance of STEM initiatives, workforce diversity and how leaders in these areas are important to the advancement of the programs throughout the U.S.

“Everyone at Siemens is proud to see Anne receive the recognition she has earned,” said Eric Spiegel, president and CEO, Siemens USA. “Anne understands that workplace diversity helps fuel innovation and drives business excellence, especially in the STEM disciplines. She represents the best of Siemens’ commitment to bolstering our competitive advantage through a diverse workforce.”

Cooney leads the newly formed Process Industries and Drives division for Siemens in the U.S. Prior to this role, Cooney was the chief operating officer for the global division of Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics.

Cooney began her career with GE Transportation as a machinist apprentice in a four-year program and spent more than 21 years in various roles such as plant management, materials management, international marketing, strategic sourcing, and product and inventory management. The STEMconnector selection process for the 100 Diverse Corporate Leaders in STEM included thorough research and outreach to more than 100 CEOs for nominations. Information for each nominee was collected in three areas: the executive’s background and career; the company’s STEM position within its industry; and the nominee’s perspective on a variety of issues in the STEM space, including mentoring and diversity.

Siemens has been recognized for its focus on diversity before. The company was listed as a Top Employer by The Black Collegian magazine; named as a Best Diversity Company by the readers of Diversity / Careers in Engineering and Information Technology; and recognized as a Top Fifty Company by Woman Engineer magazine.
