LONDON (March 2, 2015) – SPX’s Glasgow facility, which produces its ClydeUnion Pumps, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the “Manufacturer of the Year” category for this year’s Annual Pump Industry Awards.

In addition, three SPX engineers based in Glasgow, Emma Lambert, Stewart Skinner and Affan Waseem, have been shortlisted for “The Engineer of the Year” category.

The Annual Pump Industry Awards, now in its twelfth year, recognizes top achievers throughout the industry. A record number of nominations were submitted this year, demonstrating the scope of success and innovation in 2014.

SPX has a long heritage in the supply of pumping solutions. The manufacturing facility in Glasgow has been one of the largest employers in the region.

Pumps have been manufactured at the SPX Glasgow site in Cathcart since the 1800s. The plant has advanced engineering capability and applies the latest technologies for the industries it serves, including water and industrial, naval, oil and gas, and both nuclear and conventional power generation. Alongside a continual program of research and development, the facility also has an apprenticeship and graduate training scheme that develops new engineering talent in the local area. This pool of talent is part of a strategy of proactive knowledge management to ensure the site’s knowledge is passed to the next generation.

“We are delighted to be shortlisted for this prestigious award,” said Gary Walker, head of engineering of the Glasgow facility. “Our facility in Glasgow houses some of the leading design and manufacturing technology and techniques in the United Kingdom, supported by leading pump experience and expertise. Choosing SPX’s ClydeUnion Pumps is not just about high performance and reliable pumping technology; it is about choosing a partner who has highly experienced engineers to ensure all application requirements are met.”

The winners will be announced at the 12th Pump Industry Awards gala dinner at the Chesford Grange Hotel on March 19, 2015.

Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, SPX Corporation is a global multi-industry manufacturer of engineered products and technologies in three primary strategic growth markets: infrastructure, process equipment and diagnostic tools.
