About the Presenter:
About Simerics: Simerics develops, markets and supports CAE software for the virtual simulation and testing of fluid pumps, compressors and motors. With new technologies to address difficult issues, Simerics is focused on providing tools that are productive, accurate and comprehensive to allow your company to reduce expensive hardware testing and provide unique insight into your products. About VibrAlign: VibrAlign, founded in 1983, provides value-added, easy to use shaft alignment and vibration solutions. They offer field services, training and a range of laser alignment tools backed by superior customer service. VibrAlign sells shaft alignment tools, including the Shaft Hog, the Fixturlaser GO, and the Fixturlaser XA. VibrAlign personnel are located in key cities throughout the United States, with experienced service providers on-call. Whatever alignment or vibration problems you face, VibrAlign can help. About PumpLinx: PumpLinx is 3D CFD software from Simerics that allows engineers to accurately simulate fluid pumps and motors with similar precision to hardware testing. PumpLinx provides unique insight over hardware testing by allowing the engineer to see inside the pump with straightforward analysis, created with both the CFD professional and newcomer in mind.

This webinar will demonstrate the use of CFD simulation to predict flow dynamics and cavitation in a fluid pump. Pump professionals of all kinds are encouraged to register. The demonstration will begin with CAD geometry of a real-world production pump and then will explain how to use the CFD tool, PumpLinx, through real-time model and simulation set up to provide information on flow, pressure and aeration with cavitation. Finally, results will be compared to physical test data. Through modeling and simulation of a real pump, the attendee will understand the fundamentals of CFD from model setup to post-processing in this high-impact, one-hour session.

Dr. Sam Lowry, president of Simerics, received an A.B. in Engineering and Applied Physics from Harvard College, an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University and a Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences from the University of Tennessee Space Institute. Dr. Lowry's prior work experience includes over ten years at CFD Research Corporation, concluding as director of advanced technology, and five years as a NASA engineer in the Turbomachinery Branch at the Marshall Space Flight Center.
