The EagleBurgmann group of companies was formed in 2004 from the alliance between Burgmann Industries and Eagle Industry. EagleBurgmann is a member company of Germany’s Freudenberg Group and Japan’s NOK Group.

In 1884, Feodor Burgmann founded a company in Dresden, Germany, to supply technical articles to the industry. The company founder invented the machine-braided self-lubricating stuffing box packing that same year. This pioneering achievement had a major influence on the development of sealing technology. Other domestic and foreign offices and production plants were established in subsequent years. In 1945, Feodor Burgmann Jr. established business in Seeleiten on Lake Starnberg in Bavaria. The company headquarters relocated to Wolfratshausen in 1951. In 1962, the company began to develop and manufacture mechanical seals, and expansion joints were added to the product portfolio in 1965. In 1964 “Nippon Sealol Co. Ltd.” was formed as a joint venture between NOK’s Mechanical Seal Division and an American seal producer. The name changed to Eagle Industry Co. Ltd. in 1978. The U.S. company later opted out of the joint venture. Subsidiaries were set up in Asia and Australia. Founding of Eagle Machine Works Co. Ltd. for the production of mechanical seals in in Niigata/Japan happened in 1989. Comprised of eight companies, Eagle Techno East Japan Co. Ltd. was formed in 1993, with the objective of optimizing customer service.

EagleBurgmann purchased Elof Hansson Industrikomponenter AB of Sweden in 1995. Further subsidiaries are founded in Saudi-Arabia and Russia, and Eagle took over Eagle-Poonawalla on a 100-percent basis and transformed it into ESSIL (Eagle Seal & Systems India Ltd.). In 2008 the activities of ESSIL and Burgmann India were merged to form a new company, EagleBurgmann India. In 2009 KE-Burgmann Denmark – expansion-joint specialist and subsidiary of EagleBurgmann – took over American company EJS Ltd. California.

EagleBurgmann now provides industrial sealing technology to the the oil and gas, refinery, chemical, energy, food processing, paper, water, marine, aerospace and mining industries and has around 6,000 employees worldwide.
