Pumps and Systems Success Story of the Year 2010 Honorable Mention

For several years, the City of Inkster, Mich., had daily clogging issues with the non-clog pumps at its John Daily CSO station. After trying to resolve the problem with its pump supplier using different pumps and a flush valve system, it had no choice but to divert flow to a retention pond and truck the wastewater to the local wastewater treatment facility.

When the state of Michigan required Inkster to stop diverting flow, John Bresler and Peter Gurczynksi had to find a way to resolve the clogging. The Barnes SH 4SHV vortex pump model was offered as a potential solution and was installed and operated for 90 days. There were no clogging events during the 90 day trial.  After the trial period, the City of Inkster retrofitted the entire station with three 4SHV units and has not had any issues since.
