ATLANTA, Nov. 10, 2011 - Siemens Industry, Inc. today announced that four of its water services facilities have been awarded ISO 14001 certifications by Intertek Testing Services for outstanding commitment to environmental management. Siemens carbon reactivation facilities in Parker, Ariz., Red Bluff, Calif., and Darlington, Penn., as well as a waste and wastewater treatment facility in Roseville, Minn., received the esteemed recognition.

"We always strive for continuous improvement for our company, and these certifications are further proof that Siemens has an on-going commitment to servicing its customers, protecting the environment and reducing its carbon foot print," said Jagannath Rao, president of the Customer Services division, Siemens Industry. "Our dedicated employees worked tirelessly to achieve this accomplishment, and we look forward to maintaining ISO 14001 certification for many years to come."

To receive ISO 14001 certification, a plant must monitor its usage of hazardous chemicals, minimize harmful effects on the environment caused by its activities and continually improve its green performance.

Carbon reactivation is the process of using elevated temperatures followed by steam in a rotating kiln or multiple hearth furnace to remove organic compounds and other contaminants removed in the water treatment process that have been adsorbed onto the carbon media surface during normal service use.

Siemens operates three U.S.-based carbon reactivation facilities for water and wastewater treatment and is the only activated carbon services supplier with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)-permitted reactivation capacity serving both the East and West Coasts. RCRA is a federal statute governing the operation of hazardous waste facilities. The Siemens facilities in Pennsylvania, California and Arizona have safely reactivated more than 500 million pounds of spent carbon throughout the past 22 years.

The Roseville facility in Minnesota is one of two fully-permitted, RCRA Centralized Waste Treatment Facilities owned and operated by Siemens that treats hazardous and non-regulated wastes and recovers water and metal commodities for reuse.
