PARSIPPANY, N.J. (Sept. 17, 2013) – The Hydraulic Institute (HI) & Pump Systems Matter (PSM) will host a one-day pump systems optimization course on Oct. 22 at the Grand Historic Venue & Embassy Suites Downtown in Baltimore—one day prior to HI’s 2013 Fall Conference. The course is designed to help pump users learn how to identify and reduce hidden operating and energy costs in their pump systems and ultimately increase profitability of their business. Energy savings of up to 40 percent are possible.
When pump systems are not optimized for best efficiency, they drain profits with higher energy and maintenance costs, shorten mean time between repairs, and increase CO² emissions. Optimized pump systems are more energy efficient and reliable overall.
This one-day course, Pump Systems Optimization: Energy Efficiency and Bottom-Line Savings, has been taught to more than 800 people, resulting in significant dollars saved in not only energy costs but in reduced maintenance and down time as well.
Although engineers make up a good percentage of those taking the course, maintenance, operations and sales are also well-represented. In addition to end users taking the course, engineering consulting firms also take the course to gain knowledge and credibility and to network with end users to increase their business.
The course will be led by William Livoti, business development manager, Power Generation, WEG Electric Corp. With more than 30 years of experience in the pump industry designing, field testing, repairing and troubleshooting mechanical seals, compressors and pumping systems, Livoti has worked for several pump and mechanical seal OEMs as well as corporate principal engineer for balance of plant equipment at a large power utility company. Among other responsibilities, he was responsible for asset management and life-cycle performance. Livoti has a degree in mechanical engineering and holds several patents in motor and gearing design for pumps and power industry.

PSM is also offering the opportunity for interested pump companies, distributors, users, utilities, engineering consulting firms, ESCOs, energy efficiency NGOs and state energy offices to host the pump systems optimization course in their service territory, or present the course for their group of employees and/or their clients/customers.
Pump Systems Matter is a non-profit educational organization established by the Hydraulic Institute and utilities and energy efficiency organizations to educate the industry on the benefits to pump systems optimization and energy efficiency to improve bottom-line savings of end-user companies.
