(Feb. 11, 2014) – St. Louis-based Nidec Motor Corporation (NMC) supplied 21, six-foot tall U.S. MOTORS® brand vertical solid shaft pump motors to drive the pumps used in the massive snow-making system at the Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. There are 14, 5012 frame, 600 horsepower vertical pump motors and seven 5008 frame, 300 horsepower vertical pump motors. The motors are powering 21 vertical turbine high pressure pumps manufactured by Flowserve Corp. Water is drawn from holding lakes into the pump house which then feeds the snowmaking machines manufactured by SMI of Michigan.
